Out of ConTROLL

Out of ConTROLL is a chaotic and competitive combat racing game for 2 to 4 players. The goal is to eliminate your fellow trolls and be the first troll to get 8 points.

This game was made in a team with 13 other programmers, designers and artists as part of a school project. It is based on the reference game in our brief Mashed: Drive to Survive and supports local multiplayer with up to 4 controllers.

Main responsibilites

This project was my first time working with Unreal Engine and throughout it, my main responsibility was working on the UI menus. These include: the main menu, character selection menu and player HUD. All of these were made using the UI widgets available in UE5. I worked closely with artists and designers in my team to reach the desired looks and layouts for the menus. Aside from implementing these menus, I also helped out the team with smaller tasks and fixes.

To support the players choosing their own character/car, I made a character selection menu supporting multiple controllers locally.

For the player HUD, aside from the score count and display of items being held (TODO: add image/showcase), I implemented the portraits of the characters reacting to the current state of the game/character. For example: the player with the most points has a happy portrait, the one with the least a sad/angry portrait and when a player hits other's cars or the walls, their portrait also turns angry.
